In 1990 the heavy metal festival „Wacken Open Air“ was born in the open countryside in the north of Germany. The founder Thomas Jensen und Holger Hübner set up the festival with 800 fans on the village square of a little town named Wacken and established the festival over the years into a successful event. Back in the days the founder Thomas Jensen itself played on stage, drew beer in the meantime and cared for all the guests to be happy and satisfied.
1996 they finally made their big break-through. The band “Die Böhsen Onkelz” was playing as headliners and over 10.000 people came to be part of the spectacle. Since then the festival got bigger and bigger every year. Nowadays over 70.000 head banger are travelling into that small village in Northern Germany to party with the best metal bands worldwide.
Since the documentary film “Full Metal Village” was released in 2007 Wacken is more than just a festival for heavy metalers. The film shows how the population of that small town deals friendly with the visitors and what kind of familiar and positive atmosphere is steadily around. Since the beginning of the festival the commonness is as well important for organizer as for township, so that the band of the local fire department plays the opening march of the festival.
Since a few years the festival is sold out long before it takes place every august of the year and the plurality of merchandise products has become a fashion trend. Especially the shirts for men and women, the hoodies and specials are in vogue. Rock n Shop has got that great stuff from year 2009 over 2010 to 2011 on stock.
Wacken means to me…
... the highlight of the year! Karin
... party, great music and cool people. It’s just big fun. Markus, Rendsburg
... an attitude of life. WOA is part of my life since 11 years. Stephanie, Hamburg
... it’s a connection to my son who died on 03.12.2008 with 17 years on his way to school in a tractor accident. Elizabeth Jacobs, www.michael-riepe.de
... good atmosphere, cheery mood and friendly people, as well as great music and a fantastic location. I love to go there every year, especially with the cool merchandise shirts of Rock N Shop. Keep on going, Rock N Shop – you rock. :) Katharina
... finally home alone, because my kids are all there. Verena
... finally normal people!!! Rolf, Linz am Rhein
